The difference between hot melt adhesive film and pressure sensitive adhesive tape

2022-02-28 15:50:24

Hot melt adhesive film is a widely used product in the industry nowadays. Still, people often confuse it with pressure-sensitive adhesive tape, but they are different.

Hot melt film is a kind of adhesive that needs to be heated to produce stickiness, but the pressure-sensitive tape is different. It has a certain initial stickiness, as long as applying a certain pressure can produce a certain bonding effect.

Hot melt films and pressure-sensitive tapes are completely different in terms of the raw materials used. The common hot melt adhesive film is usually made of EVA, TPU, PES, PA. Pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes are made from SBS and SIS elastomers, so they are completely different in terms of raw materials.

From a morphological point of view, hot melt adhesive films are generally packaged in rolls or slit into fixed-width tapes. The pressure-sensitive adhesive tape is more common in tape, commonly double-sided tape, or transparent tape.

In terms of use, hot melt adhesive films are often used for occasions that require high bonding strength, such as clothing, shoe materials, and other products in manufacturing. The pressure-sensitive adhesive tape is often used for occasions that do not require high bonding strength and are often used to bond paper and decorative items that require temporary fixing.

Therefore, hot melt adhesive film and pressure-sensitive adhesive tape are completely different in the raw material formula, product form, usage, and occasion. However, a hot melt pressure-sensitive adhesive product combines the advantages of hot melt adhesive and pressure-sensitive adhesive. It can be used on some occasions with high requirements for adhesive strength while having initial adhesion.
